Hello and welcome back to the blog! I hope you’ve been well and doing lots and lots of thrifting? Me? I’ve been doing just fine, going on my thrift store raids and living life one day at a time. So, I am, if you didn’t know this already, a certified Psych-o and no, I don’t mean “Psycho”, as in, the Hitchcock classic:
I mean, I’m an obsessive fan of the tv series, Psych, clear now? okay 🙂
Now that we’ve cleared that up, I can proceed with why I brought up that up. I was in Schaumburg, Illinois for the maiden edition of Psych-con and if you’ve been following my blog, you’d know that no trip is complete in my book, till I’ve raided me a couple of thrift stores anywhere I go. Well, this was no different, I didn’t get a chance to raid more than one store as the first thrift store I visited was such a gold mine that I had to leave some items I’d spotted on my raid behind, given the weight restrictions on luggage and all 🙁
Looking on the bright side though, I had a blast at psych-con and didn’t do too bad on my thrift store raid so, I can’t even dwell on the items I wasn’t able to get on my thrift store raid as the items I did manage to purchase were well worth it. So without further a do, my loot:
My loot:
The Jewelry:
So the color tags of the day were green and white. The green tagged items were 35% off the tag prices while the white were a whopping 75%. Guess what tag color items I was aiming for as I scoured through those shelves are racks? Lol!
First couple items of the haul would be the jewelry. This first necklace was priced $4.99 and since it was not the tag color of the day, I got it for the full price.
The earrings were also neither of the tag colors of the day, so I bought them for the full price of $3.99
Last item of jewelry would be another pair of earrings:
I got these for the full price of $1.99 as all of the items that caught my eye that day just happened to be not tagged with the tag colors of the day.
The Records:
So, I have always gotten my vinyl’s/ records for $1, no exceptions but, this was the first time I found myself paying over $1 for not one but four of my vinyl’s. The bright side, the rest of them were white or green tagged(all white tagged items were 75% off and green tags, 35%) so, I ended up paying about $0.48 for the rest of them which was in my book, more than a fair pay-off but, bringing it back home, the first vinyl up would be the only one I got at the full price of $1.95:
I had seen Funny girl for the first time during the Pandemic and as always, was absolutely blown away by the very talented Barbara Streisand but what I did not expect was to find the Diana Ross + The Supremes version not only in the same store but, for $0.48 as it was a white tagged item:
I honestly, almost wished I lived in Illinois as I found so may great items that I had to leave behind due to my luggage, weight restrictions but if I’m being honest, I didn’t do too bad with the pre-loved items I did manage to get.
My next vinyl would be another classic, in “The king and I“:
This one was green tagged so I picked it up for 35% off the tag price of $2.95 and was so, so glad as it was definitely one of my childhood favorites.
Next vinyl in my haul would be another classic in “Aint Misbehavin“
It’s an original Broadway cast recording and features performances from Nell Carter , Andre DeSheilds, Armelia McQueen, Ken Paige and Charlaine Woodard, to mention a few of the great talents. This was a white tagged item so I got 75% off the $1.95 price.
Up next, my very first Sinatra vinyl:
Oh, you don’t know how elated I was when I spotted this one! It’s his “Come dance with me” album and features songs like: Cheek to Cheek and, “I could have danced all night” and the cherry on top? It was $0.48! Not bad for a Sinatra vinyl, huh?
Up next, another member of the Rat pack in the late, great, Sammy Davis Jr.
’tis his Golden Boy musical which features acts like Kenneth Tobey, Ted Beniades and Charles Welch, to mention just a few. It came with an insert that has some really amazing behind-the-scene pictures. Originally priced $1.95, it was white tagged so, I got it for $0.48.
Next up, a classic:
The adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist” and features songs like: “I’d do anything“, “Consider yourself” and “Reviewing the situation“. This one was also white tagged and ended up up being about $0.48 with the 75% off.
Sticking with the classics, my next vinyl would be, “Handel’s Messiah”- The original Manuscript
I already own one of these but it just had a few of my favorites but this one has my absolute favorite song of the lot, “The trumpet shall sound”, so I could not pass it up. This was another one of the vinyl’s I got for over $1 as it was originally priced $4.95 but being that it was a green tagged item, it was 35% off which ended up being a little over $3 but do I regret it? Not one bit, it came with a total of 4 records and has some songs I’d never heard on the “Young Messiah” I listened to growing up.
Up next, we have the super talented Belafonte in his “Midnight Special“:
it features songs like “Muleskinner” and “Memphis Tennessee“. This was also a white tag item so I paid a whole $0.48 for this beauty.
Next let’s check out the amazing Doris Day with her amazing “Day in Hollywood” Album:
It features songs like “It had to be you” and Tea for two“. I got this one for 35% off $2.95 and it was the fourth and final vinyl I got for over $1 and I think it was quite a great find.
Next up, we have another great in the late, great Miriam Makeba:
I picked up these two up for $0.48 a piece as they were both white tagged and were 75% off.
Next, let’s do a fairy tale:
Picked up Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping beauty for $0.48 as it was a white tag item and I can’t wait to take a listen.
Now this Jean Sibelius record I picked purely for the sleeve design:
I still can’t wait to give it a listen as I’m definitely judging this record by it’s cover.
Next up, I have a Texas guy:
Found this Jim Reeves Vinyl, white tagged of course, so it only cost me $0.48. This vinyl has songs like “He’ll have to go“, “Theme of love” and “Home” and was quite a good find.
Next up, we’re heading to the movies. I found this Original sound track vinyl to the movie, Gypsy
Picked this beauty up for a low, low $0.48 as this too was a white tag.
Next, something to bring out my inner child:
This “More mother Goose” vinyl is a Disney and teaches us about animals with songs like: “Come with me” and “Have you ever been to a zoo”. Now I have a new addition to my Disney collection and could not be happier that this was also $0.48.
For the second to the last vinyl on this post, Franz Schubert: Mass in a flat major
This was also $0.48 and has songs like Kyrie, Gloria and the creed.
For the last vinyl on this post, we have another Handel:
This I also got for $0.48 as it was also a white tagged item.
The clothing:
One thing I regret was the fact that I was unable to buy alot of clothing items and not because I couldn’t or didn’t find any but because, I was worried I’d go over my luggage limit on my flight back home but anyways, all was not lost as I was still able to find a few amazing pieces. So, let’s go right ahead and see what I was able to find.
First up, I have my favorite clothing find of the day:
I had to pay the full price of $9.99 for this beauty and did not mind at all as I really do love this set. It’s by the brand, Prestwick & Moore.
My next clothing item was going to be my first pick for favorite find of the raid but, I found out after the fact that it was missing a button and there’s also the thing with the tags being cut off so I don’t know who made it or what it’s actually made of but all that aside, it’s still my second favorite find of the raid. So here it is, my no- tag, second favorite find of the day:
This coat is super heavy, gorgeous and lined with some pretty orange fabric and has pockets both on the inside and the outside and icing on the cake? Originally priced $10.99, it was 75% off, why? Well, because it was a white tag item. I made the cashier chuckle quite a bit when I couldn’t stifle my grin after she rang this item up. It was quite a find and I’m super excited to clean it up and hang it up in my closet because for how thick it is, there’s no way I’ll be wearing it in Texas but at that price, there was no way I was leaving it behind 🙂
Now, I did get some other clothing items but don’t think they are worth sharing as I tend to share only my favorites but I’ll be sharing one more item and it’d bring me to the end of this one. I found this jewelry case, I’m pretty sure it’s not vintage but I thought to get it as it was a white tagged item.
Originally priced $4.99 ,it still had it’s original tags and the kicker? it was 75% off so you know I wasn’t leaving it behind and now that I think off it, those pieces of jewelry I shared up top would go quite nicely in this little case were I to travel with them, yes? Well, that’d be a wrap for this post, thanks for checking out my thrifted stuff from Illinois and I’ll be seeing you.

Just Beautiful.. 😊😊😊
Love this post! I am envious of the great deals you found thrifting in Illinois. I had no idea that you could get vinyl records for such a low price. Funny Girl is one of my favorite musicals. I learned something new about Diana Ross and The Supremes having done a version too. The Preswick & Moore suit is adorable. Initially, I thought it was a pajama set in the pic. The coat reminds me of old Hollywood. Thanks for sharing your finds.
