Hello and welcome back to the blog. Seems like the gods of the writers block have shown me some mercy cos lately I’ve really been in the mood to blog and so far, it’s been fun. So I’ve defined a thrift store, given tips on how to go on your first thrift raid, today, I’d like to share my top twenty favorite thrift store, clothing finds. Well, I’ve been thrifting for a long, longgggggggg time so, narrowing all my thrift store finds down to twenty favorites would be a challenge but, I’ve been rearranging and moving around a lot of items at my place, which has led to made look through most of my thrift store finds so, that should help some with the process. Now, without much more lollygagging 🙂 than is necessary, let’s proceed with this top twenty list.
Top twenty thrifted items:
Number one: Let’s kick things off with this Maxi, black slip dress from Gen X. It’s quite form fitting as it’s part spandex which gives it just a little bit of stretch but could either enhance one’s best assets and features or do quite the opposite to be honest :). I bought this so long ago that I can’t remember how much this beauty cost me at the DAV thrift store in Houston but knowing me, I went thrifting on their 30% off sales day and I would have paid less than $10 for it.
Number two: Coming up second on this top twenty list, would be this Larry Levin suits, set. I got this as a 2- piece but suspect that it had a third piece to it.
This cute set is black with pink strips and super chic. I keep drawing a blank on what thrift store I picked this one up at but believe it was either at the Alamo thrift store or the Dav Thrift store and would have been under $10 dollars. Side not, I’m quite the cheapskate as I’ve mentioned before so, most every outfit I purchase stays below ten bucks. I only ever get an outfit over my self imposed per outfit budget if:
- I know it would be gone before the next sale day.
- The thrift store is way, out of my way and I know I won’t be headed back to it in a long while
- I know I will dream that said outfit is chasing me down the street and asking why I left it behind 🙁
Which is why I remember when I actually do pay a little higher for an outfit but yeah, I’m pretty happy about this find.
Number three: The third item on the list would be this John Ashford cardigan. ‘Twas made in Italy, it’s black and green plaid and quite cozy.
I picked this (and a couple more)up in the women’s section of a Family thrift store but have always suspected that they were Men’s wear. I can’t confirm this suspicion as the sizing tags seem to have been cut off but I honestly don’t mind at all as the proof is on the fit.
Number four: Coming in fourth on the list would be knee length black and blue dress by Drapers & Damon’s . It has buttons running all the way down and has a matching waist tie, which I prefer to tie to the back as it cinches the waist in a lot better that way.
I got this at the Dav thrift store in Houston which if you haven’t noticed, was my favorite thrift store but the store was sadly shutdown, out of the blue, in 2023. This one definitely falls into my under $10 buys and for the value and fit, it definitely had to get a spot on my favorite finds list.
Number five: Coming at number five would be this unique sweater by the brand TWJ by MERVYN’s’:
I’m not going to lie, excited as I was to find such a unique piece, I looked at it’s tag and almost put it back as I saw that it was made of some synthetic fabric(yeah, some vintage pieces are made of pretty weird material). I thought it would be itchy but I decided to take a chance, I washed it and put it on and it kept me quite warm and cozy. Needless to say, I was pretty pleased with this purchase.
Number six: At number six is this maxi, button down dress by a brand called R.Vivimos:
I’m honestly not sure if it’s vintage but what I’m sure of is how much I love it. I has buttons running from top to bottom which takes some effort to get fastened but it’s worth it , for me. I like to style this dress with my brown, western belt I shared on my accessories post and a matching pair of cowgirl boots. I think this would be nice outfit for a music festival or even the Houston rodeo which is right around the corner.
Number seven: At number seven, I have this red and white, Brentwood Sportswear Cardigan:
Gosh, how I love this piece! I’ve had it for the longest and got it when I was new to thrifting, when things were like, super-duper cheap at thrift stores, so I’m certain this was super affordable . I think this would pair well with a pair of blue jeans and white sneakers, yes?
Number eight: Number eight is this gorgeous, floral dress by Jessica Howard:
This lovely, midi dress is long sleeved and has functional buttons that run from the waist, downwards which could be used to control how much or little of a slit you want. The only negative would be that, the dress originally came with a belt but was sold to me without one. Bright side to this is I’m certain I can find a deep green, leather belt when the time comes for me to wear it, so yay to that.
Number nine: Let’s take a look at number nine on the list. It’s a Maroon, skirt suit by the brand, Dana Buchman:
I believe this was the very first thrifted item I’d gotten for over my self imposed budget. This was priced at $19.99 I believe but, I went to DAV thrift on their 30% off day so got it for less and I truly love this piece. It hits just above the knee but isn’t so short that you’d not be able to wear it for a formal event what’s even better is, it could also be dressed down with some sneakers or sandals and a casual top which is probably how I’ll be wearing this. How would you style this piece? Formal or casual?
Number ten: Coming in at ten is the black midi dress that I picked up at DAV thrift some years back. It’s by a brand called JACOB:
I really love this dress and wore it to essence fest with some heels when I went last year. I think it can be dressed up or down to suit the occasion. It has hidden buttons that run all the way down it’s length, is quite form fitting, yet still holds it’s structure and is all round just amazing but the icing on the cake would be that I got this for under $10 🙂
This is where I put a pin in part one of my top 20 list of thrift store clothing finds. Thanks a bunch for checking them out with me. Let’s pick this up in part ii, yes? In the mean time, do take care of you and happy thrifting!
