Hello and welcome back to the blog. Today I’ll be doing a post on one of my favorite things ever – All black clothing. I’ve always loved black clothing, I can’t explain why but I feel there’s something quite elegant about an all black outfit. I’ve heard a number of people who are of the opinion that black outfits make one blend into the background but I think black does quite the opposite and looks quite regal when worn the right way but, that’s just me. I’ve always been partial to black clothing so, it should be no wonder that I am drawn to black clothing pieces while thrifting.
In fact, I took a look at my closet a couple of years ago and saw a sea of black, which was when I decided to make a conscious effort to add some color to my wardrobe but that’s by the way as today, I’ll be bringing them back to the forefront of things. So, ready to take a deep dive into this sea of black goodness with me? Alright, let’s get this list started.
My favorite Black thrift store finds:
Number One: Coming in at number one would be this Jil Sander dress that I got for under $10 at DAV thrift a long time ago:
Why did this dress come first on this list? Well because, when I got this dress I didn’t think much of it and didn’t even look at the tag till I got home and wanted to take off the thrift store tag to get it washed. I googled the designer to see what else they’d made and was pleasantly surprised. I honestly haven’t worn the dress as I never figured out how to retain the see through nature of the dress and be modest at the same time, lol! Oh, I also didn’t know where to wear it to, so there’s that 🙂
Number Two: At number two we have this Talbots dress:
Oh, warning, this would be the first of many on this blog as I seem to find a ton of them so, brace yourself for impact. Still haven’t quite figured out where I’d be wearing this but a villain convention tops the list of places I’ve been considering but I guess we’ll see. I can’t remember for how much I got this pretty dress but I can assure you it was under ten bucks.
Number Three: Coming in at number three would be this Quipao style, dress by the brand Ultra Dress New York:
The moment I laid eyes on this dress, I knew it was going home with me. Now, where would I wear this nice little dress? I’d probably throw on some heels and wear it do a semi- formal event as I think it has just right amount formal and depending on where you plan to wear it, your shoes would do the rest.
Number Four: At number four is another black dress that I adore:
It’s by the brand, Maggy London and has functional buttons running from the waist down to the hem, which could be unbuttoned to reveal a slit and in turn turn it from a formal dress to a more relaxed, business casual attire. Can you say beauty and functionality all in one?
Number Five: At number five we have a something a little more casual in this Talbot’s button down dress:
This dress is made of velvet-like fabric and is a bit thick so, I tend to wear it in the cooler months. I got this one so long ago that I can’t remember how much it was but what I do know is, I really love it so, thought it deserved a spot on this list.
Number Six: At number six would be this the all black two piece outfit:
Picked this beauty up on last black Friday for 50% off the price tag of $9.98 and was super thrilled with the purchase. I threw on my thrifted Liz Claiborne belt for a more ‘put together’ look but there’s no denying how cute this set is, even without the added accessory.
Number Seven: At number seven we’re taking a little break from all the dresses and going with a two piece pant set by the brand,
This two piece was also a black Friday purchase so it was 50% off the tag price of $14.96. It’s hard to tell but it’s polka dotted and seeing how formal this ‘get up’ looks, I’d probably tone it down with some chunky, black heels. I’m thinking, a few metallic accessories would be a nice touch to add, thoughts?
Number Eight: Wow, where did the time go? We’re already at number eight? You know what they say about time and having fun? It certainly does apply here, doesn’t it? Well, coming in at number eight would be this dress by the brand, Nipon Studio:
Spotted this one at my local Salvation Army early last year and couldn’t walk past it. It has a waist-tie that you tie to the back which really helps cinch in the waist and, some gorgeous gold detailing when you pop the collar. It’s quite a unique dress and I’m even more astounded that I got it for only $6 on their 50% clothing sale day.
Number Nine: At number nine, we have this The Hollywood Connection by Trovilla dress:
Now, this dress gives me ‘churchy’ or wedding reception vibes but there’s just something about it that I adore. Not sure if tis the lace detail at the bottom or the fact that it’s black but I really, really like it. It was definitely under ten bucks and you guessed it, this was also a DAV thrift store find.
Number Ten: For my last entry, I actually had two items in mind but since I had just one slot left, I had to go with this dress:
I went with this one because it was one of the very first pieces I’d picked up at the DAV thrift store when I’d just moved to Texas and discovered the hidden gem that was DAV thrift. Would you check out the fit and cut to this Ann Tjian for Kenar dress? The icing on the cake as always, would be how affordable these thrift store finds are and I’m pretty sure that I’ll be thrifting till I’m old and grey, just for thrill I get, when I find something awesome at the thrift store 🙂
Well, that was my top ten list for today. I hope you had fun checking out my some of my black stuff and, I’ll be seeing you on my next one.
