Hello and welcome back to the blog!
So, whenever I go to a different side of town, I like to check out thrift store scene especially now that Dav thrift has been shut down and I’m on the prowl for a new favorite thrift store. Anyway, I went to get some essentials at one of my favorite grocery stores and since it was a bit far out from when I live, I decided to look around for a thrift store as I was feeling a little lucky and felt the thrift gods were on my side that day and what do you know? There was one just a few miles away! I did notice, though that when I tried to look up the store in a gps, it did not give me any results so, I had to literally type in the address and when I finally arrived at the store, I figured out why- it was a brand new store.
I honestly wanted to turn around and find another thrift store for two reasons:
- This store was located in a part of town where you have mostly younger people
- It was a new store.
Now, why would I see these as negatives? I’ll tell you why, I like to thrift, for the most part because of the prospect of finding vintage items. Seeing that the donations might be coming from a younger crowd, the chances of them donating vintage clothing would be pretty slim, no? As for the store being new, they probably don’t get that many donations, I mean, if google maps was having issues locating the store, what hope was there for mere mortals looking to donate goodie bags, chock full of all that vintage goodness? 🙁 but that’s all by the way. I decided to give the store a chance and this is how it went.
I went into the store and noticed that while there was a good bit of foot traffic in store, it wasn’t so busy that I couldn’t breath freely, so, yeah, that was a plus. The store was also very well stocked and I really appreciated the fact that they’d made a pain staking effort to arrange the items for the most part, according to size.
I typically stick to vintage items at thrift stores but one thing I recently started looking for was a summer staple, namely, ripped jeans .
I found a couple of them I thought might fit but forgot to layer my clothing so, couldn’t try them on. Another reason though that I didn’t get the ripped jeans that day? I could not find any clothing item that was tagged with the tag colors of the day. In fact, the only item I was able to find in either tag color (blue or white) was a photo album and I speak about this on my video footage which I’m dutifully getting edited into a YouTube video at the moment and will be uploading shortly 😉
Looking on the bright side though, I was able to pick up two dresses that day. Granted, I had to pay full price for them, but I knew that I’d regret it if I left them behind. The first item being a beaded, blue dress that stopped me in my tracks, once I had spotted it. It is spaghetti strapped, has some gold detailing to it and is quite a pretty dress. I picked it up for the tag price of $14.99 and don’t regret it for a second. Here’s a quick peek of what it looks like:

Yeah, I haven’t quite figured out how to take full-length pictures and footage on my camera so this is all you’ll get till I figure it out 🙂
Now you know my thrift store raid is not complete till I get something black right? Yep, that’s exactly what I did. Thrifted this black beauty for the full price of $14.99 and didn’t regret it either:
It’s a maxi, short sleeved dress with shoulder pads, by the brand, Michael Blair. It’s has a great fit to it but is not too form fitting which I really love and am certain that I will be taking the shoulder pads off before wearing it out as I think they are a little too much for the dress but other than that? I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. This is what it looks like on:
All in all, was it my favorite thrift store experience? No, not by a long shot, but do I see myself going back to that particular store? Um, maybe, condition being that I get a clear understanding of how their tag colors of the day/tag system works not forgetting, the secret to where they place said items on their tag days!
That’s my post for today, thank you so much for stopping by and I’ll be seeing you on my next one, bye now 🙂
